Do You Have What it Takes To Work in a Call Centre?

Job Vacancy Indonesia, Employee, Vacancy

Working in a call centre might seem like an easy job at first glance. It's just about answering phones, right? Wrong. There are many different jobs in call centres. There are Customer Service Reps (CSRs), Technical Service Reps (TSRs), Supervisors, Managers, and Human Resources staff, and many others who work to ensure a call centre, the customer's first line of contact with a company, works as a well-oiled machine.
So what does it take to work in a call centre? Though for this article we'll focus on CSRs, many of these skills are critical in other call centre jobs too.

Ability To Work in a Fast-Paced Environment:
In a call centre, it's all about speed. If you are working in an inbound call centre (meaning call come in to your call centre, as opposed to CSRs making calls) the main focus is how fast can a rep answer a phone. How quickly can they solve a customer's issue? Call times and wait times are how a centre calculates its efficiency, and therefore, it's costs and profits. But call times and wait times aren't just important for the company, they are also important to the customer. That's why it's critical to be able to work under pressure.

Accuracy and Attention to Detail:
The customer is calling you because they have a problem. You must be able to answer their inquiry quickly and correctly so their faith and trust in your company is upheld. It's important to the company you work for that their customers aren't frustrated. These customers are the backbone of your company, and they need to have faith that their call is being handled professionally and correctly and that they will get the same correct answer if they call next time. Accurate consistency is critical. And for that, you need to be the type of person who can learn and retain information.

Ability to Learn New Skills:
Products and services change constantly. And though the basics will remain the same, you need to be on top of new things. The last thing a customer wants to do is be calling you for answers and you don't know what they're talking about. You also have to be willing to learn computer programs or software unique to your call centre. Call centres have a lot of processes and you must be able to learn how those work so you can work more efficiently, and better serve customers.
Learning new skills such as another language can also help your job prospects in a call centre. Many list the ability to speak a second language as an asset.

Ability to Deal with Difficult People:
More often than not, customers will call because they have a problem and they want you to fix it right away. If you cannot show empathy, and support them in their frustrations, they will get increasingly upset. You must be able to deal with difficult people and know how to handle and diffuse them. Consider taking a course on the subject. You'll learn how to improve your listening skills, and learn little tricks as simple as repeating back what you hear from your customer. This helps them feel listened to, understood, and in the end, it helps them feel better. The more ability you have in dealing with difficult people, the better you will feel also.

Flexibility:
Though a call centre can be a great 9-5 job, most of them require you to work some shift work. And this or may not fit your schedule. When you decide to apply for a job at a call centre, make sure you know what you are able to do in terms of shift work. If you have dependents, you will need to make alternate care arrangements. Remember too that changing shifts can affect your sleep patterns and your activities outside work hours.
The nature of call centres can also mean that you can be called in at the last minute. You might also be sent home if there is not enough work. If this is a concern for you, ask how often this happens when you are considering a job in a call centre.
Working in a call centre as a CSR can be a satifying job. Often, opportunities to move up to a team leader or scheduler can be had with the work experience you gain starting at the bottom. If you have the right skills and the desire to improve them, a career as a CSR might well be worth investigating.

Aircraft Mechanic - Career Courses

By Renata McGee

Job Vacancy Indonesia, Employee, Vacancy

Working equipment on aircrafts is the number one priority when it comes to flight safety. All aspects of an aircraft are vital to the success of a flight. Students can enter a career as an aircraft mechanic after completing a schooling program from a vocational college.
To gain a further understanding of the career students can research typical vocational programs and their curriculums. An aircraft mechanic program or often referred to as avionics technician program can be entered at numerous schools. In the process of working through focused courses students learn to be specialized repair technicians. The goal of education is to prepare students to perform repairs, maintenance, and inspections of an aircraft. Courses hone in on the ability for mechanics to recall information so they can install, manage, and remove equipment. Different aspects of the field are looked at in separate courses. Coursework inside a vocational degree may include:
  • Aircraft Electrical Systems
  • Autopilot Systems
  • Avionics Maintenance
  • Calibration Equipment
Vocational colleges offer students these courses and more inside a certificate or associate's degree program. The integration of these courses is centered on providing students with the educational background to service aircrafts. Troubleshooting potential problem areas and ensuring that the structure of an aircraft is sound and ready for flight are the two main ways mechanics perform service. Students can expect to learn the entire mechanical process after completing a program. General courses taken inside a vocational program teach students the maintenance needed to maintain an aircraft.
Courses vary depending on the school and program selected but most include courses like:
*Aircraft Electrical Systems
Introductory concepts are introduced that include alternative and direct power currents. The circuits and voltage used are emphasized so students understand how to fix electrical systems inside aircrafts. After a basic foundation is laid students apply their knowledge to the operation of an aircraft. Understanding the power behind operation is how students learn to fix aircrafts when they cease to work or malfunction.
*Maintenance Procedure
Due to the regulation standards set forth by the Federal Aviation Administration students are required to adhere to these standards in the classroom and in the workplace. This type of course examines how to inspect, manage, and report all maintenance completed. Students learn to keep records of all work conducted to ensure that repairs are done according to code and the specific technical requirements of aircrafts.
*Communication Maintenance
The ability for a pilot to communicate is essential for safe travel. Students work to understand the systems of an aircraft and how to fix them when they fail. The main system is explored to train students to repair the electronics part so pilots can successfully send out messages to their control tower.
The knowledge gained inside a program is vital to the work done in the professional world. Students can study the mechanics of an aircraft by first exploring the different schooling options and entering accredited program. Programs and their concentrated courses center on giving students the proper knowledge to go from the classroom to the field. Full accreditation is provided by agencies like the Council on Aviation Accreditation ( http://www.aabi.aero/ ) to programs that offer the best quality education. Students can make this transition smoothly by completing a program in aircraft mechanics.
DISCLAIMER: Above is a GENERIC OUTLINE and may or may not depict precise methods, courses and/or focuses related to ANY ONE specific school(s) that may or may not be advertised at PETAP.org.

Fridge Magnets As An Advertising Tool - Does It Work?

By Robert Badger

Job Vacancy Indonesia, Employee, Vacancy

Fridge magnets are gaining in popularity as a way to advertise a business. The one question that many people have is if it actually works. Although there are no guarantees on any advertising options, fridge magnets have a very successful track record for a number of reasons.
Refrigerators are one of those items that every household has. It is also located in a heavily traveled area and has many people opening and shutting it every day. Because of this, companies have decided to include these magnets in the reach of their advertising.
Each time someone walks up to the refrigerator, they will see the magnetic advertisement- depending on where they put the actual magnet. It is very common to place fridge magnets on the front of the refrigerator rather than on the side which means it is very possible that a person would see the advertisement every time. Once a person grabs what they need out of the fridge, they shut the door and have an opportunity to see the magnet advertisement once again. Every single time someone heads toward the refrigerator, this process happens.
Consider the fact that people go into the kitchen for many other reasons. One of these reasons is to wash their hands. Other reasons people go in the kitchen is to make a meal, do the dishes, get a cup or utensils and much more. If the fridge is in the garage, there are many other opportunities to see the advertisement as well. No matter where the fridge magnet is located, it will gain a ton of exposure.
Many people choose to create business card fridge magnets as a replacement or addition to the traditional business card. There are benefits to this including the fact that it will not get damaged. This route is highly successful because, unlike a paper business card, the magnet does not usually get misplaced. If someone picks up a card and then sets it down after a number has been dialed, there is a greater chance that it will be lost and not available for future use. When people refer to fridge magnets, it usually remains on the fridge because they walk up to it, dial the number and then walk away.
There are many ways that fridge magnets can be effective. It is important to identify a target market before deciding on which style to go with. Some companies get a huge return for using magnetic calendars or photo frames while others fair better with a simple business card look.
Choosing fridge magnets as a medium to advertise through is an excellent idea. It provides a huge amount of exposure which lasts a long time and brands the company name, logo and slogan multiple times daily to the people who see it.

Advance Your Career With a Masters Degree

By Deon Du Plessis

Job Vacancy Indonesia, Employee, Vacancy

Are you someone who wants to get ahead in your career? Do you want to get that edge that will help you get ahead of everybody else and get you into that position that you've always wanted? There are many ways to achieve your career goals but none are as rewarding and as valuable as getting a masters degree. If you look at the sheer volume of people who are currently out of work with normal Bachelor degrees, then its not hard to see that the bar has been raised.
There is no doubt that a tertiary education is becoming more important in an competitive job market. Just competing with all the other applicants who has exactly the same qualification as you can be very tough. You need something that sets you apart and getting a masters degree may well do that for you. Less than 10% of all graduates proceed to extend their education and less than 10% actually get a masters degree or a doctors degree (this excludes MD's). By simply furthering your studies you can really set yourself apart.
Getting a masters degree is also not just about getting ahead from the pack. Its also about specializing and really honing in on a specific area in your field. We've all heard it before but the world is becoming much more specialized and the need for experts in particular fields are increasing. A masters degree will enable you to specialize and to become more of an expert in something that you actually like doing.
Lastly, when prospective (and even current) employers see a masters degree on your resume it instantly changes their perspective of you. It really says a lot out you beyond the mere qualification. It speaks volumes of your enthusiasm, your ability and your general approach to your career.
Not only will a masters set you apart from everybody else, it will help you to reach levels in your career that won't be possible with a bachelor's degree. Why not look into it. It may just be that missing piece that you've been looking for. With numerous new online degrees available you don't even have to go back to school full time. You can do it for much cheaper, at your own pace and even get a very specific degree from international schools. I would encourage you to look into online schools. There are some great educational opportunities out there.

Should You Recruit A Targeted Market for Your Network Marketing Company?

By Art Lovell

Job Vacancy Indonesia, Employee, Vacancy

This article will discuss the pros and cons of the traditional strategy of recruiting from your warm market or targeted cold market as a network marketer. Ultimately the aim of this article is to provide valuable insight into the benefits of each method to help you grow your business. As network marketer, you are building a team and it goes without saying, that having the right team members is pivotal to your success.
Benefits of Recruiting from the Warm Market
Recruiting from the warm market has 3 main benefits having an existing relationship with potential business partners, potential referrals, and the locality of your leads. When you recruit from the warm market, specifically your family members and friends, you have the benefit of existing relationship. You will not be seen as a stranger salesman and this can be extremely effective in piquing people's interest. Another benefit of recruiting warm market is that you may get an easy referral due to your existing relationship. You friend or coworker may not be interested in joining your business, but they may refer you to their associates who are. Lastly, a major benefit of recruiting warm market you have the benefit of your potential business partners being local which makes it easier to invite to local hotel or home presentations.
Benefits of Recruiting From a Targeted Cold Market
There are 3 major benefits of recruiting from a targeted cold market. They are more leads due to a bigger market, the ability to target leads interested in your business, and starting the recruiting process from a position of authority. First, by moving your recruiting efforts online allows you to reach more people than you can by simply recruiting from your friends and family through various advertising methods online. Recruiting online allows you to filter out people who are uninterested in your opportunity and only speak to people who are interested through advertising. Lastly, recruiting from a targeted cold market allows you to recruit from a position if authority through marketing online and attracting only the leads that are interest in more information about your company and your team.
Conclusion:
Is one method better than the other? Ultimately, both methods should be learned and mastered. People have seen success using both methods but the trend of many network marketing building strategies have focused online simply because there are more people online than in your warm market. However, network marketing will always will be a relationship business and you should work hard on establishing relationships with potential business partners online and offline.

Careers In Herpetology And Herpetoculture

By Dr. Robert Sprackland

Job Vacancy Indonesia, Employee, Vacancy

So you think you want to establish a career where you get to work with reptiles and amphibians. If that is the case, this article is for you. Why did I write an article about getting what seems to be an easy-to-obtain job? First, there are a lot of people who contact zoos, museums, and websites asking just that question. While there are some pamphlets available that briefly address the question (ASIH, no date; SSAR, 1985), there are few other published resources available (Barthel (2004); Sprackland and McKeown, 1995, 1997; Sprackland, 2000). There are some guides to entering the academic world of biology (i.e., Janovy, 1985), but these generally focus on career paths in the university world, while the field of biology is far broader than herpetology or even organismal zoology. This article, then, gives professional colleagues a resource that may help them answer specific questions from their clients.
Second, many people do not consider a career in herpetology or zoology until they reach the stage where it has become obvious that their collections have outgrown their personal resources. They either wish to expand their contact with large reptiles in a zoological park setting or perhaps wish to engage in meaningful field or laboratory studies. Among the ranks of this group are many seasoned and competent herpetoculturists, and they form a significant group seeking information about how to "turn pro."
Career Options I: The Private Sector
There are probably more paying opportunities in the private sector than can be found among the zoological parks and academic markets combined, though it may also be safe to say relatively few private sector jobs will pay a living wage. Among the jobs that can be classified as "private sector" are those that receive funding as commercial, for-profit ventures. Typical jobs would include animal dealers, pet shop workers, breeders, lecturers, and writers. For most of these positions, success will be based largely on experience and knowledge-from whatever source you obtained it-and less so on formal academic training. Some notable herpetologists came from the ranks of the privately employed sector, including Lawrence Klauber, Constantine Ionides, E. Ross Allen, Steve Irwin, and Hans-Georg Horn, as well as many of the most knowledgeable contemporary reptile breeders.
Working in the private sector generally has two paths available to you. First, you may work for someone who owns a reptile-related business. Pay is variable in such situations, and may be based more on the financial condition of the business than on any experience you may bring. Perhaps the more financially rewarding route is to operate a business of your own. Many commercial breeders start by specializing in a single species (such as leopard geckos) or a genus (such as rat/corn snakes). From there you may branch out to handle other species, or you may remain a specialist dealer and supply your personal passion for exotic reptiles with a private collection.
There are also herpetological supply businesses, school lecturers, and reptile food suppliers, among other possibilities. The key to making any of these ventures work is to tackle them as serious business activities. Take some business classes, or buy some good books about writing a business plan (essential for getting loans) and operating a small business. Take advantage of free advisory services of friends in business or the U.S. government's SCORE program (Service Corps Of Retired Executives), where experienced business people will review business plans and loan requests, discuss accounting and inventory control, and be available to help in a myriad of ways that will make you life easier and business more likely to succeed.
Career Options II: Zoological Parks
It was once true that if you were willing to clean cages and apprentice under an "old timer," you could get a position at even the most prestigious of zoos. By the last third of the 20th century, though, a variety of factors at zoological parks had changed drastically. Operating costs, including salaries and benefits, utilities, insurance, cost of animals, and greater competition for visitor's dollars all made it essential to streamline the operations and assure better-trained staff from their date of hire. People wishing to work in the animal care departments were routinely expected to have completed a two-year associate's degree in biology, animal husbandry, or zookeeper training. Now it is much more likely that a zoo will want new hires to possess a bachelor's degree and have a few years' experience as either a zoo volunteer or part-time worker. Moving into management may require you to have a master's degree as well.
Why all this focus on academic qualifications? There are several reasons, and we'll examine each in detail. First, of course, is that many employers see completion of a college degree as an indicator of your ability to take on a long term project, with all its ups and downs, and finish. An associate's degree program at one of the few community colleges that offers such a course of study will consist of far more hands-on (or "practical") time working in a small zoo that a student would get in a traditional university setting. The two-year course is vigorous, and potential zookeepers will be trained across the lines of the zoo world, being exposed to bird and large mammal care, administration and administrative duties associated with a broad spectrum of possible career positions. The more traditional and popular four-year university degree route may entail little practical zoo keeping experience, but provides a very broad range of classes that include English (good communication skills are expected of new hires), math, history, Western Civilization, philosophy, chemistry, physics, biology, and a variety of optional, or elective, courses. There is rather little focus on zoology during the four year program, so a candidate who can "tough it out" is seen as being a well-rounded individual with a solid background in sciences and who can complete a long-term project that appears to have little direct bearing on the final goal.
The second reason for wanting a strong college background in new zookeeper hires is because animals are becoming more expensive to acquire, maintain, and replace. Zoo managers rightly expect modern keepers to know considerably more about the anatomy, physiology, behavior, and diseases of the animals for which they will have responsibility. The keeper is the first line of action for keeping animals healthy and recognizing when something may be wrong, and the better trained the keeper, the better he or she should be at handling that responsibility. College teaches students how to do research, and the working zookeeper may have to use library, on-line, or professional contact sources to get information necessary to the well being of animals.
Breeding was once the rare and much-heralded accomplishment of few zoos, and then only for large, usually mammalian charges. The pre-1965 efforts were often on so-called "postage-stamp collections" of animals, where zoos would try to obtain one specimen each of as many species as possible. With the mid-1960s enforcement of the U.S. Lacey Act, establishment of the Endangered Species Act and the beginning of CITES, zoos were limited in their abilities to acquire new animals. It quickly became fashionable, responsible, and fiscally necessary to learn to breed more species and use progeny to populate zoo collections. During the pioneering days of captive husbandry, zookeepers with a greater knowledge of physiology, reproductive biology, and the natural history of the animals in their care had a decided advantage over other keepers. Such staff members became crucial to the continued success of many zoo missions, helping drive the recruitment of new employees with a more solid and diverse background in the science of biology.
Third, many zoos have come under increased scrutiny both by the general public, wanting to be sure that the zoo's mission is actually being accomplished, and by groups who advocate against the keeping of any animals in captivity at all. Today's zookeeper needs to know how to educate the public to the needs of animals and the important roles played by well-run zoological parks. An indispensable part of being such a zookeeper is to have a broad view of the mission coupled with exceptional speaking and/or writing skills. Every keeper is also an ambassador for their zoo and the value of all zoos to the visiting public. Employers often equate your ability to handle these tasks with the training you received in university.
Career Options III: Academia
The academic world has much to offer, but also makes considerable demands. Careers under this heading include primarily university positions-almost all of which have teaching responsibilities as well as research-and the small number of museum curators. For an entry into any of these fields a candidate must certainly hold a doctor of philosophy (Ph.D.) degree, and most jobs now also require you to have held a postdoctoral position as well. There has been a fair amount of discussion since the middle 1990s to create a new post-Ph.D. degree, the chancellorate, but most critiques argue that by the time a student would attain that degree, they would be facing retirement age!
An academic herpetologist may have the greatest freedom to explore the topics of personal interest, especially in a museum setting, but even there the job will require expertise and skills that extend beyond studying reptiles. University and museum professionals enter the profession as assistant professors or assistant curators. They will be charged with setting up a research program that is funded by grants-which they must raise with limited institutional help. Earning a grant means having a solid research proposal, excellent writing and budgeting skills, and the resources that will guarantee the promised results if you are funded. Your employer will also expect a certain quantity of peer-reviewed publications (those that appear in the scientific or technical journals) from you. If, after three to seven years, depending on the employer, you meet these goals, you will probably be offered a promotion to associate professor or associate curator and tenure. Tenure means that, barring an extremely serious breach of responsibility, you have a job for life.
But it is not as easy as the previous paragraph describes to get tenure. You will also need to serve on committees, provide input on institutional projects, and establish some sort of interaction with the broader community. Each of these tasks is designed to give you the chance to be seen as an authority in your subject and prepare you for increased responsibilities in the future. Your success or failure will also weigh in on whether or not you earn tenure. On top of all this, university faculty are also expected to teach, which means that you will essentially be charged with two very distinct jobs.
College Preparation
College education is not for everyone, and with the increased competition for available entry slots in each year's classes coupled with ever increasing tuition and related expenses, it should be a well-planned and carefully considered step (Sprackland, 1990). For those of you still in high school-or for parents whose children want to prepare for a career in herpetology-I shall offer some basic advice on how to prepare for college. The sooner you can start your efforts, the better, because you will need three solid years of the right kinds of high school courses in order to be seriously considered for admission to a good university. Opt for the college-prep route, and take three or more years of math (algebra, geometry, algebra II, and calculus), three of laboratory-based science (biology, chemistry, and physics), and work to excel in English, particularly composition. By the junior year of high school you should be researching colleges. Find out which schools offer degrees and courses of interest; not all schools offer zoology paths, and of those that do, not all offer courses in herpetology. Start reading one of the major scientific journals (Copeia, Herpetologica, and Journal of Herpetology) and study where the authors are who have interests that coincide with yours. Each scientific paper includes the author's address and, almost universally, e-mail address.
When you find authors you wish to contact, do so. Write a brief polite letter introducing yourself and expressing interest in studying herpetology. Ask for information about the author's university, its courses, degree offerings, and admission requirements. Plan early, because entry requirements vary somewhat among universities.
If you choose to go the community or junior college route, there are some differences in your procedure from what you would do to get into a four-year school. You do not need the same rigorous high school course load to enter a community college, and entry requirements vary from none to minor. There is little difference to the student between the first two years of college whether at community or four-year colleges, and in many cases the former is a better educational deal. Why? Because unlike four-year colleges, community colleges do not employ graduate students to teach. Faculty almost universally have at least a master's degree plus several years' experience as instructors, providing a considerable potential edge over the graduate student teacher.
Once enrolled at community college, you must meet two objectives if you wish to eventually earn a solid bachelor's or higher degree. First, be sure to register in courses that will transfer credit to the four-year school you plan to attend. If this is not possible-some universities do not recognize some community college courses as adequate-then have an alternative university to aim for or go directly to the four-year school of your choice. Second, take every course as seriously as you can. Work to earn an A average, especially in science, math, and English composition courses. Don't waste your time at community college, assuming it is the easy alternative to a four-year school; this is rarely the case. Many community college instructors are leaders in their respective fields. The late Albert Schwartz was a herpetologist who probably did more than any other zoologist to study and document the herpetofauna of the Caribbean islands, and he is still extremely highly regarded by his peer community. Yet for his entire career, Schwartz taught only at a community college. Several distinguished herpetologists are doing just that even today.
When enrolling at university should you sign up for the bachelor of arts or bachelor of science program? There is a small difference, though few students (or graduates) know what it is. In the bachelor of science (BS) track, you have almost all of your courses determined by a university-set plan. You are required to take specific classes and have very few elective options. The bachelor of arts (BA) is more liberal; it still has a considerable number of required courses, but you have far more latitude in elective class choices. Because my interests were so broad in my undergraduate days, wanting to study paleontology, Latin, and philosophy as well as zoology, I opted for the BA program. Had I taken a BS route, I could not have taken such a range of classes and still graduated in four years.
Graduate School and Post Graduate Options
Graduate school is definitely not for everyone, though it is absolutely essential if you wish to obtain an academic career or a position as a senior zoo employee. Collections managers and zoo keepers typically opt for a master's degree, which provides advanced coursework and a chance to engage in some project or activity that has a direct bearing on the requirements of an advanced career path. A doctoral degree is a research degree, meaning the recipient has been trained to conduct original studies. This is the degree needed for professorial and curatorial positions. The vast majority of people who plan to earn a doctorate do not need to earn a master's degree en route.
Master's programs take from 18 months to three years of full-time effort, and include a large number of courses, some research or work as research assistant in a lab, and often require a written thesis based on library or research work. Some master's programs will require you to either work as a research assistant or as a teaching assistant, supervising laboratory sessions. Doctoral programs in the United States start off similar to the master's route, and with classes, lab or teaching duties. Upon completing a set of qualifying examinations, the student becomes a candidate for the degree and begins working on an original research project, which will eventually be written up as a thesis. If the thesis passes faculty scrutiny, the Ph.D. is awarded. U.S. doctoral programs typically span five to seven years of full-time effort, after which the herpetologically oriented graduate faces a daunting job market. If you want a Ph.D., go ahead and earn it, but do not assume it is a guarantee of an academic job. During the particularly tight job market of the 1980s and 1990s, my contemporaries joked that Ph.D. stood for "Pizza Hut Delivery." (This seemed somewhat appropriate given that we survived graduate school by ordering astronomical numbers of Pizza Hut pizzas to our labs; now "the hut" could pay our salaries!)
If you decide to enter graduate school, begin your job hunt no later than a year before you plan to get a master's degree, or two-and-a-half years before a Ph.D. Once again, read the journals, attend conferences, and find out where people are with whom you would be compatible as a new colleague. Whose research could complement yours and help you on the road to tenure? Make those contacts early and make sure you have people who will vouch for you when those precious jobs become available.
CAREER OPTIONS IV: MISCELLANEOUS
Perhaps none of the previous categories applies to your interests. That still leaves a considerable number of possible careers that will allow at least some work with reptiles. Most require a bachelor's degree, though a job announcement will often claim "master's degree preferred." Among the choices are-
Government biologist-Positions with federal and state wildlife agencies sometimes allow study of herpetofauna. Among the obvious agencies are fish and wildlife, game, and environmental services. However, biological work is also undertaken by the U.S. Geological Survey, forest services, and occasionally in military research (the U.S. Army and Navy long operated a considerable snake venom research facility).
Teacher-Both primary and secondary school teachers have numerous opportunities to acquaint children with the natural world. In many states the teacher must hold a degree in a content area-say biology or zoology-while other states accept applicants whose degree is in education. Check carefully to determine the requirements for the state in which you wish to teach.
Community College Instructor-As tertiary schools have increased their dependency on lower-paid part-time instructors (who typically do not receive health or retirement benefits), the ranks of part timers has exploded. While the working conditions are extremely variable, part-timers can expect to have limited or no campus office space, no faculty standing, and perform the same teaching duties as full-time colleagues, but for 40% to 70% of the hourly pay rate. The rare full-time opening in this market is considerably more attractive, and carries no research, grant-seeking, or "publish-or-perish" responsibilities. Generally, the candidate must have a master's degree in biology, teaching experience, and the ability to teach some combination of general biology, microbiology, and anatomy and physiology.
Writers-Natural history writing has its ups and downs, but many a herpetologist has earned at least some money from commercial publication. Choose a niche, such as writing about herpetoculture or more broadly about a specific group of animals, to get started. Financial success will ultimately depend on reliability, excellent writing skills, and the ability to expand to reach broader audiences. The more biological or scientific topics you can cover, the more your potential income. Although herpetology is my grand passion, I have also published on the topics of education, philosophy, sub-micron electronics, non-metal conductors, evolution, venom research, and history.
Photographer/illustrator-Just as a financially successful nature writer must reach a wide audience, so too must the photographer or illustrator. Few, if any, of these professionals make a living wage by only illustrating reptiles; there is more security in animals and general nature shots.
Veterinarian-A secure field if you do not plan to care only for reptiles. Like graduate school in general, there are serious academic hurdles to meet, and competition for openings (there are fewer vet schools than medical schools) is fierce.

4 Tips for Elementary School Teachers

By Tauqeer Ul Hassan

Job Vacancy Indonesia, Employee, Vacancy

If you don't like kids, becoming an elementary school teacher certainly is not your job. Elementary school teaching involves a lot of interaction with kids and at times these little creatures create too much problems for you that things become difficult to handle and they are all over you in the class. In this article we are going to give you four useful tips on how to keep the kids under control and attentive for longer time, to those who are teachers in elementary schools.
Play Play Play
At elementary school level, the kids you are in charge of may be no more than five or six years old. Well there must be no doubt that when you were a kid you also wanted to play and that is it. The changing scenario definitely has no impact on kids, as they still just want to play. So, it is an important factor, which you being an elementary school teacher should bear in mind in order to keep a good control on the class the entire day. You have to plan your tactics keeping this very fact in mind. You never allowed kids to play all the time without any learning nor will your school administration or parents like this.
Incorporate Play Time
Now you have become aware of the fact that kids always want to play and it is hard to teach them when they are just not willing. You cannot let them play all the time without any learning as you have to respect the school board as well. There is a simple solution for this problem. You have to incorporate all of their playtime into a fun learning process. Kids are always ready to play games so what you need to do is to incorporate all the boring material into some colorful, interesting game. You will see kids will automatically get into it and enjoy without realizing the fact that they are learning. There can be so many such games through which you can teach them indirectly.
Be a Big Brother/Sister
With the growing age kids become more susceptible to influence, especially when they reach to a tender age of eight or nine. Controlling such kids become rather more difficult than younger ones. Being a role model to them, you need to treat them carefully. Treat and talk to them like an adult may serve the purpose. So, if you talk to them like an adult and let them know that you think highly of them, they will respect you for sure. Make them realize that you're like their elder brother and sister to whom they can come to solve their problems.
Rewards
Giving rewards is a great way to keep your class' attention for longer. Giving reward for every good behavior or any correct response will encourage the kids to behave well and concentrate on learning process. Spending a dollar or two on your kids is nothing better than to have their full attention.

Four Most Important SEO Techniques

By Joaquin Costa

Job Vacancy Indonesia, Employee, Vacancy

It is not a very difficult thing to be included in the top ten list of the search results page of Google. You simply have to have a strategy that works; you also have to be persevering and patient with the work. You benefit from having an idea as to how the algorithms of the search engines work and what their criteria is when it comes to ranking sites. These are some simple SEO techniques that you can use to get into the top ten list even for the highly competitive keywords.
Tip 1: Publishing articles
Your articles should be published on article directories, blogs, web portals for the industry, online magazines, and many others. These are ways for you to promote your site, get added back links, and secure media buzz. The article that you publish must be relevant and worth the time of the reader. It should be interesting and useful.
You must include keywords in both the title as well as the body of the content. This will allow the web crawlers to go through your site. If your subject matter and content is interesting, it will help you to bring traffic into the website. Do not forget to post your website's link on the articles that you publish.
Tip 2: Update content
It is very important to have content that is frequently kept fresh and updated. This is one of the most important things you need to remember when doing SEO but sadly most website owners do not follow this. The search engines keep track of how frequent a web page's content is updated. You need to have content that is useful and relevant so that you gain a good ranking and authority. Web site crawlers go through this new content and do page re-indexing.
You need to properly place and target the keywords so that you can show multiple results that go to your website. This is true even if the search engines have altered something in their algorithm. Having a high ranking page involves hard work. These are often calculated by the search engines so you will lose out if you do not keep the site frequently refreshed.
Tip 3: Contextual blogging
The newest trend in online advertising is the use of contextual blogging. Blogging is very useful for business owners. It shares relevant information to people and their peers. It provides useful information for the readers especially if you are an expert on your field.
Tip 4: Web directories and links
Links coming from the link directories are not enough to take effect with search engines. But there are some authentic directories that have a high page rank themselves. This is a great way to get deep links, inbound links, and search engine authority.

Basics For A Home Office

By D D Mosley

Job Vacancy Indonesia, Employee, Vacancy

Look around your home. Where can you put a home office? If you are not fortunate enough to have extra rooms available for an actual office you only need room enough for a corner desk. The perfect desk will have at least two levels or some sort of storage. Desks are usually inexpensive and can be put together in a matter of minutes. Try Wal-Mart, Target or even Craigslist or yard sales.
Next your computer. Almost everyone has a computer these days, but if you are in the market check out Wal-Mart, Target or even warehouse stores such as Costco. And again, you can always check Craigslist or even get your old computer upgraded-its cheaper. You need enough speed and memory to handle multimedia and videos. Your system should be able to handle any software you may need. The most important part of your computer is virus protection. Check our Download.com for software to keep your system safe.
The phone is next. My Blackberry is with me always. I do not know what I would do without it. My Blackberry has every app I need for business - Twitter, Facebook, MySpace, WordPress, 5 of my email accounts, a calendar, address book, a memo pad and even The Bible. There is an app for whatever you can imagine. I have an unlimited plan which includes talk, text and email. There are many phone companies and plans. Most companies offer free or minimal fee phones just for signing a 2 year contract. If you are not ready for that type of technology, a regular home phone will do. Just make sure you have an answering machine or service so no message will be missed.
The next piece of equipment is an all-in-one printer, copier, fax, scanner. They do it all. I bought mine from Amazon.com for less the $60. It's an Epson and works wonderfully.
A shredder would also be ideal. You do not want any personal or financial information in the wrong hands. Keep financial and personal paperwork in a secure place. Find some time of locked filing box or cabinet for this paperwork.

Management Tips

By G Web Ross

Job Vacancy Indonesia, Employee, Vacancy

I will be presenting a series of articles relating examples that influenced my career during my 40 plus years in management. Some helped my career some were setbacks. While all may not be relevant to you, my hope is that they may spark an idea that will lead to advancement in your career or help you to avoid mistakes along the way.
Georgia Pacific was very supportive of our hometown community. The United Way was a large contributor to the philanthropic needs of Crossett and the surrounding area. The company had whole-heartedly supported their annual drive, but it had been going downhill and the drive had not met their goals over the past several years. They were having trouble getting volunteers to help with the drive and no one wanted to be Chairman. The board called a special meeting of some of the community leaders and simply said; "if we can't find a leader and sufficient volunteers we will have to disband the United Way fund".
I have always supported the concept of the United Way and I didn't want to see it fail. I knew the company felt the same way, so I volunteered to serve as Chairman. I felt with the right leadership we could have a successful campaign. The first thing I did was to enlist some key people I knew had the leadership abilities and influence in town. These included the publisher of the newspaper, the general manager of the radio station, a couple of innovative enthusiastic home makers, a manager of the electric utility who was respected among the business community, and representatives from each of the 3 mills in town.
The first thing we did was set a budget. It was intentionally set higher that the previous years' budget, which had not been met. Our rationale was to convey to the public that the committee had confidence in our success.
The next order of business was to erect a huge thermometer that charted our progress toward goal. We then held a town meeting featuring a band and speeches by community leaders. It wasn't a huge crowd, but we got great coverage from the newspaper and radio.
One of the past failures had been the length of the campaign. The solicitors didn't feel any sense of urgency and tended to procrastinate, in fact a lot of them didn't finish their solicitation. So the committee decided to shorten the campaign to 10 days. This was not a unanimous decision; a lot of people thought it could not be done in that short amount of time. I knew it would take a lot of planning for this to work and that's what we did.
On kick-off day everything was in place, all of the volunteers had their assignments, and were well versed on the urgency of completing their jobs within the time frame. Our committee created some publicity stunts to rally the town for the upcoming drive. We held a parade down Main Street, a car bash where we charged $1.00 for a sledgehammer blow. Even the children were involved. They set up lemon-aide stands throughout town. By doing this we generated a lot of great publicity. The newspaper and radio ran a series informing the public as to how the fund would be used to benefit the community. Therefore when the campaign started there was a lot of enthusiasm building, it was quite amazing to see the turn-around.
The first day of the campaign was a huge success. We took in pledges that amounted to 27 percent of our overall goal. I knew then that it was going to be a success. However with all my enthusiasm I didn't realize just how successful this was going to be. We made our goal in the first 6 days and by the end of the 10-day campaign we had pledges totaling 147 percent of our goal. That was the most money ever raised for a United Way drive in Crossett.
Even though it was not the reason I took on the Chairmanship, this was a huge boost for my career. My boss was a great supporter of the United Way, and he was delighted with the success of the campaign. I received complimentary letter of congratulations from the vice president of the Crossett Division, Mr. Bill Norman, and to my great surprise another very nice letter from Mr. Bob Pamplin, the President of Georgia Pacific. My point here is you can gain recognition by participating in community projects.
This next example of recognition turned out to be the turning point of my career. It was my first production job and provided me the opportunity to prove I was up for the task.
The tissue mill had been in operation for over a year, and while the paper machines were doing quite well, the converting department was struggling. They were not meeting their budget and had not turned a profit since start-up. They had consultants and corporate engineers from our other mills trying to help, but it just didn't come together. The manager decided to replace the converting superintendent. When I got wind of this I asked to have my hat thrown in the ring for his job. I had always wanted to get into production and from my perspective this was a great opportunity. I had been studying the operation and felt very confident that it could be turned around.
Before I even knew that I had the job, I developed a plan of action. The first day I took over I began to implement my plan. I met with the key people and asked for their input. Equipment down time was one of the major problems of the department. I felt the maintenance supervisor was very competent but seemed to be a bit lethargic in the execution of his duties and it pretty much permeated to his crew. The previous superintendent was a bit autocratic and began to micromanage those who worked for him. The maintenance supervisor was one of those people and he didn't like it. I think he basically waited to be told what to do before he responded to a problem; he just was not taking any initiative.
I had concluded that this man held a very important key to the success of this department, and I needed to cultivate him. I had established a solid relationship with him and he eventually became my confidant. I asked for his advice on a variety of issues, not all maintenance related, and he was very helpful. Maintenance people see a lot of things that the production supervisors don't see, and I got a lot of insight from him about some of our problems. But the real benefit came as his confidence grew and he began to creatively and enthusiastically solve his maintenance problems, again it permeated to his crew.
I established a measuring system to track our downtime on a shift-to-shift basis (we worked 3 rotating shifts 7 days a week; days, swing and graveyard). Within weeks we started to see a substantial improvement in downtime, which of course meant increased production.
On the production side, I established a large blackboard showing the previous shift's production. I placed it in a very prominent position so when the shifts changed, the oncoming shift would see the production from the previous shift. I didn't say a word about competition, but the workers picked up on it and the contest began. They each tried to improve upon the production of the previous shift. They didn't always do it, but I made sure when they did I was there to congratulate them.
The third month after I became superintendent we made a profit. To celebrate I held a good old Southern fish Fry for all the crews. They had each contributed to that profit and I wanted them to know that. Eventually we reached a plateau where it became more difficult to set records and the competition kind of fizzled out, but the production didn't. We ended up with a very good year, considerably above budgeted profit.
This is where I first developed the philosophy of team management. I inadvertently practiced this in this my first production job, and didn't realize what it was until I started reading about it several years later. I saw that by giving each employee ownership and responsibility and then following it up by providing support and recognition, inevitably success would follow. Later in my career I took on a monumental task of trying to educate an entire work force of about 2,100 people to use this management philosophy.
I must say I really enjoyed this experience; it was the most rewarding job I had held thus far in my career. I really thrived on the challenge of working toward goals that could be very accurately measured, and where success or failure was tangible. I also appreciated that no one was looking over my shoulder watching my every move-I was given the control to make a difference.
At one of the corporate meetings someone asked me how I accomplished this turnaround? My answer was simply this, "I didn't; the people did. I merely provided the support they needed to get the job done." And that's a fact!
In conclusion on my discussion of recognition, I would like to make the point that by far and away the best way to obtain recognition is your job performance. Make the extra effort to perform above expectations.
My next article will be discussing EDUCATION and the important role it will play in your career.

The Recession and Your Endless Search for a Job Are Over

By Sarah Weinberger

Job Vacancy Indonesia, Employee, Vacancy

Today's Los Angeles Times begs for a commentary, sadly not in a positive way. The problem with a lot of people in the media and in government is that they live in a bubble, separate from other people in the world and the problems they face. You hear citations of talking with "experts", economists and government officials of various kinds. Reading the paper is definitely an exercise in patience. Who needs yoga, when the media exists with the possible exception of Keith Olbermann on MSNBC.
Have you heard? The recession ended in June 2009. You should get at least one interview for every ten resumes that you send out (source today's Los Angeles Times), and the people that are suffering are those in finance and manufacturing. There was a third category, but I forget offhand what that was. Jobs are plentiful, if you live in places like Washington D.C. The Los Angeles Times blamed the high unemployment on a mismatch of where the jobs are to where people live. People in California suffer because jobs are plentiful outside of California.
I live in California and am quite familiar with the job situation and the causes here in California, most specifically with the greater Los Angeles.
I was telling a friend of mine today about what the L.A. Times said and my friend's comment was two things. One, and he is closer to being right on the first point, is that it takes more like submitting one thousand resumes for every interview unless you are absolutely 100% qualified and your resume gets to the right person and you are the right age and this and that and this and that. I could hear my mother saying, "And if my grandmother would have a penis, he would be my grandfather." Exactly! I added that one has to be around 28 years old too. They are the easiest to train, look up to companies as something special, are dirt cheap, and will work hard and long hours. He also likes to talk about the liberal media. He is a Rush Limbaugh ditto head, Glen Beck too. He is wrong, obviously, on the second point.
I keep carping on the same points, but they are valid. First off, engineers and other white collar workers seem be be forgotten. Secondly, I am familiar with the profession, but before talking about engineering further, I want to digress to tell a story that I heard.
I talked with my sister recently. She is a medical doctor and her husband works in a hospital. I was told that up until recently there was a woman, who came by every afternoon, picked up the Dictaphone, and brought back a written transcription the following day. After years of service, how do you think that she was rewarded? Did she get a raise? Yes, just not the kind that you are thinking about. She got a quick life from having a foot hand on her butt and tossing her out the door. She was laid off. Why? The hospital could hire a company, in India in this case, at half the cost.
I used to work at Verizon. Before going on, I will say that I loved that job, the people, and learned a lot. What is also true is that Verizon was guilty of not outsourcing one job, but virtually the entire engineering effort. Not only did quite a bit of interaction involve interfacing with the Indian team (numbering in the hundreds from what I could tell), but I would say that over 70% of the people in my building were Indian too working on an H1-B visa. I was one of only a few non-Indians. That mix was not good enough. Verizon decided to close that building and handle the remaining work in Texas, at least until 500 unlucky souls there got the ax. Verizon was laying people off left and right during my term there.
You may say that Verizon was a special case. Nope. My next job was even worse. Let me just say that the next time you fly on a 787 Dreamliner, you can think of the plane as an outsourced plane. The trend is getting worse, not better.
Of the companies that I have associated with in one form or another, most believe in outsourcing like many believe in spending $5 (per day) on a cup of coffee at Starbucks. Some people waste more than $5 per day. I know of at least two people that fit that bill.
I am not trying to be racist, far from it. Yes, companies have the right to go where labor is cheap. I agree with that statement. They do whatever the law permits.
Before continuing, I talked with a recruiter recently and was told the outsourcing figure. There are currently about 6 million people working currently in the United States on an H1-B visa. The government created the H1-B visa program, so that companies could hire talent that was not here in the United States. The H1-B visa program morphed into a program that does everything but what it was meant to do.
The trouble with engineering and many other industries is not the recession. The recession is responsible for some job loss, as was the housing bubble burst, but not all jobs. Manufacturing jobs got outsourced. "American" car manufacturers build most of their cars outside the United States. NAFTA is a fancy way of saying take jobs out of the United States. That was when the problem started. The problem started with manufacturing and spread to many other industries.
What is my comment about the article that I read that a person should get a minimum of one (1) interview for every ten resumes submitted? If I were to say horseshit, which was my first thought, I would be saying something bad about horses, and horses are nice creatures, so I will reframe from that thought. Is there a word to take its place?
As long as I am venting, illegal immigration plays a toll. I know the Republicans want to score brownie points with their base on this issue, but there are jobs lost in this way. I was at a well-known restaurant chain recently. They definitely hire knowingly illegal immigrants. One bragged to me that he came here illegally from El Salvador and makes $10 per hour. He holds two jobs. No, I am not making that up, and God alone only knows why he told me or was bragging to me on the topic. Common sense would say that he would be quite as a church mouse on this topic. Is he the only one, nope. I feel for his story, but the truth is that he is taking away a job from an American. Okay, illegal immigrants is a small percentage of the problem and outsourcing the white elephant, but even so.
Our former president said that migrant workers (that seems to whitewash the real phrase, no?) take on the jobs that no one else wants to. Okay, I still do not know of a word to replace horseshit, because that comes to mind. The truth is that there is no one that wants to work like a slave for $2 per hour in the fields or $10 per hour serving soup or warming potatoes for guests on Sundays. I agree with that. What would happen if we increased the wage to $25 in the field and in the restaurants?
What would happen if Congress got some Cojones and imposed a tax on H1-B visa and outsourcing, ff a company wants to outsource work, it would have to pay a tax of 20% plus 1.5 times the amount of money lost than if the jobs were done here? What would happen if a company had to pay $2 million tax per year for every H1-B applicant?
The cost of goods would go up (guess what folks, they do anyways), but at least everyone that wanted a job would have a job. They would be able to pay for goods.
Just to address one other point that I keep reading about in the papers and is so total whatever the word I should use (thoughts?). "We are in a deflationary time, blah, blah, blah."
Supercuts charges $2 more now than a few months ago, which is $2 more now than last year. Restaurants charge significantly more now than in the past. I am thinking of a certain national American Italian chain that doubled their prices in about a two to three year span. Rents have gone up. Groceries have absolutely gone up and not by a little bit. Gasoline has skyrocketed. Airline ticket prices have gone up. We live in a radically inflationary time, just people do not complain and the media and government ignore the facts.
Another sticking point, as long as I am bitching, is a certain bank agreeing to stop foreclosures. How about landlords agreeing not to collect rent and the courts agreeing not to hear any cases of tenants not paying rent, hence no evictions. Did I make my point? I am not being heartless either, far from it. Housing costs had exponential inflation, not because people wanted a home, but because people wanted to become rich off of it, flip properties so to speak. Yes, there are those that really did get hurt, but a lot more that played the game and should pay the price like the rest of us.
I totally get ticked off hearing that unemployment is bad and that people who receive it have a disinterest in finding real work. That is the Republican mantra. I am not even being biased. They really say that and a lot. I hear this view much more so than how most people in the GOP are against abortions and "Don't Ask Don't Tell." Every other speech this year seems to evoke how benefits should be cut and how employees are lazy. Are you?
Finding work is a tough lonely job under any circumstances and especially if you are out of work for long periods of time. They are not lazy and really do work. I cannot give work to people and nor can I pass legislation, but maybe in my own small way, I can help by creating a program that really does help job seekers get a job. I wrote JobFish, because there was no tool, which truly helped job seekers. There was no company that listened to their needs. ButterflyVista has tried to live up to the ideal to help people. It was written by a job seeker, who knows from experience what is required. JobFish has grown a lot this year by listening to all of you and incorporating many of the comments. ButterflyVista in the future will continue to do the same.
I hope that with these blogs that there will be a discussion started and a groundswell building so that jobs really do come back and not just temporarily and at the expense of someone else. Politics and jobs are interconnected; they always have been. Fixing the economy takes time. Fixing anything takes time, but breaking it is quick.
